holiday

As ever, packing was a pain – particularly as I was trying to think about the almost inevitable chill on Islay’s beaches whilst sweltering in Bristol. In the end the heat clearly addled my brain and I arrived with only one decent jumper, no hats, scarves or other useful bits of layering. Luckily I went into auto-pilot for the girls so they are just about ok. But yesterday was completely glorious – bright blue skies, sparkling sea, impromptu paddling and lots of seal watching – from the garden! Time for the annual mermaid …

No more posts for a bit – I only brought the computer in order to finish off a couple of
work-related bits and pieces, and I’ve ticked them off now. Let the holiday begin.

  1. Where do you stay on Islay? My husband and I went on a fabulous holiday there visiting all the distilleries and exploring the island before the boys were born and I’d love to go back with them!

    • Hi there – we stayed in Port Wemyss, a tiny fishing village which sits at the end of the road that runs around Loch Indaal from Port Ellen. Very child friendly, the girls could play in the street outside the house, and were able to go down to the little bay on their own, further round in Portnahaven you can swim and two bays on at Currie sands there is a proper beach with white sand – at its busiest there was only ever one other family there with us.

  2. Beautiful…Islay is on my list to visit – we went to Arran last year on the Waverley paddle steamer and that was fun. I expect you have been to Port Charlotte for a visit
whilst on Islay? Looking forward to seeing some wonderful pictures.
