I love reading the random notes and messages that people leave around the city. I photograph some because they make me laugh, like the one above and the ones in this post here; others, like the one below, because they look rather lovely. This little group is all quite self-explanatory, apart, perhaps from the last one, which I found under the sofa. Martha wrote it, and left it for a doll she fervently hoped would spring to life in the night.

She seems to have accepted that the doll is not “achly” alive.
Again, I am impressed by the humour of Bristolians. The people of Worcester seem to be an unimaginative lot.
Ditto here in Cambridge…it’s a long time since I’ve seen some interesting scrawlings…
When my son was small, I found notes on the landing after he had gone to bed, ‘I hate school’ and ‘I am a dumb head’.

he’s twice the age and more than double the size he was then, today he came home with a glowing report, that’s my boy
I don’t see anything that exciting either, more’s the pity. Love the note from Martha.
I found a note my son had left for the tooth fairy underneath the little bag I had made to keep his tooth safe. It said…..’LEAVE THE BAG’.
Brilliant! You don’t see much graffiti or signage in a Welsh village, sadly. Although a recent note from my daughter caused great hilarity: ‘Why is there a legless camel in the fridge?’.
Turned out on investigation that it was an oddly shaped piece of ginger.
I don’t know how old Martha is but I hope/think she’d like reading The Borrowers if she hasn’t already
Classic.
Keep it forever.
I have a Martha too.
